The development of ecologically-based pest management of insect pests in orchards (almond, olive, stone fruit, pistachio), vineyards, lettuce and urban systems.
Programs are developed to help farmers achieve economic success while farming using environmentally and socially sustainable practices.
Research studies are primarily directed towards biological control (classical, augmentative, and conservation), but have included studies utilizing less-disruptive approaches (e.g., Bt, pheromones) that help conserve natural enemies in the farm ecosystem.
We also investigate insect-plant interactions that influence pest or natural enemy densities, the economic impact of pest populations, and the biology and ecology of pests and natural enemies.
Persons interested in graduate school or post doctorate positions should have an interest in similar applied and ecological research. Contact: daane@uckac.edu.
